KORTRIJK, Belgium, March 5, 2018 – Esterline Corporation (NYSE: ESL) (www.esterline.com), a leading specialty display manufacturer serving global aerospace and defense markets, will provide French air navigation service provider DSNA with over 200 widescreen 4Kx2K displays for use in its control centers. After extensive testing, DSNA selected the 43-inch Codis MDP-843 display, which was recently added to Esterline’s growing ATC product portfolio. The displays will be delivered before this summer.
DSNA has been relying on ATC displays from Belgian manufacturer Esterline for many years. DSNA air traffic controllers have always appreciated the reliability and optical quality of Esterline’s offering. When the operational ATM context changed, however, they demanded a larger ATC-grade screen to be able to view as much information as possible. After several months of extensive testing and in-depth evaluation, DSNA concluded that Esterline’s ATCgrade Codis MDP-843 display fulfills every aspect of its stringent requirements. In total, Esterline will set up over 200 displays at DSNA’s air traffic control centers in Brest and Bordeaux.
Making life easier for operators
“After an in-depth market study, Esterline’s display appeared to have the best technical features as well as the most favorable price,” says Mr. Guy Vilquin, Head of Program> at DSNA. “We wanted a 43-inch display to enable our traffic controllers to view large-sized radar images. This will make it easier to visualize traffic and, consequently, understand what is happening and detect possible conflicts. In addition, our operators will be able to see ancillary information, like flight schedules and data from the Medium-Term Conflict Detection (MTCD) system, on the same screen. In the past, they needed a second screen to see those details. By consolidating all information on one main screen, the new display is a more ergonomic solution.”
Meeting the need for more display space
“The square LCD display has remained the ATC standard for over 20 years, but we are now seeing a gradual shift in the market,” says Steven Luys, Esterline’s Vice President of ATC Solutions. “As the amount of information and tools provided to operators is continuously increasing, more operators are expressing a need for more display space. The widescreen, ultra-high definition (UHD) 4Kx2K main display that we designed is perfect for operators who prefer a single screen over a multi-screen setup. Integrating the latest LCD panel technologies – an UHD LCD module, the Codis MDP-843 display ensures a wide viewing angle, high contrast, and the lowest reflection. Hence, it helps ATC controllers observe every track, enhances user comfort and reduces eye fatigue.”
