FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Esterline Receives Contract Award of 12.7 Million to Supply 155mm Artillery Cases to U.S. Army
BELLEVUE, Wash., January 25, 2001--Esterline Technologies (NYSE/ESL http://www.esterline.com) today announced that it has been awarded a firm-fixed-price, multi-year contract to produce the modular combustible case for 155mm artillery rounds. Production will be completed at the company's Armtec Defense Products subsidiary in Coachella, Calif. (Combustible cases act as rigid propellant containers, and also ignite when fired, improving ammunition performance.)
Robert W. Cremin, Esterline CEO, said, "...work will begin on the first year's $12.7 million funded portion of the contract in July." According to a Department of Defense (DoD) release, the $12.7 million was awarded to Armtec as part of a $41.5 million sole source contract to be completed by June 2003.
Referring to the DoD release, Cremin said the contract contains options to manufacture and deliver up to 1.4 million MACS (Modular Artillery Charge System) case sets with a potential total contract value of more than $40 million. Cremin noted that Esterline's policy is to book into backlog only the funded portion of multi-year contracts.
He explained that MACS is optimized for the Army's new extended range advanced field artillery system, as well as other 155mm artillery systems currently fielded or under development.
Esterline is a leading specialty manufacturer of highly engineered products serving aerospace/defense and electronics markets. Armtec is part of the company's Advanced Materials group. Return to Top / Home
