In electrical engineering, a switch is an electrical component that can break an electrical circuit, interrupting the current or diverting it from one conductor to another. 

Esterline Interface Technologies utilizes several forms of switches depending on the application, look, and feel that our customer requires in the manufacture of custom designed input components.  Switch technologies utilized include capacitive switches, mechanical switches, membrane switches and DuraSwitch®.

Capacitive switching is based on the principle of signal detection through capacitance or resistive coupling (human touch) of identified generated input pulses.

Configurable switches allows the developer the freedom to select a bank of switches to be placed in the face of the bezel assembly configured to address the needs of each unique application.

Mechanical switches are more intricate and of higher quality than membrane keyboards. Each key has its own independent keyswitch mechanism that will register when a key is pressed.

Membrane switches are versatile, low cost and reliable technologies that provide an alternative to bulky mechanical switches. 

Duraswitch combines the best features of both electro-mechanical and flat panel membrane switches into cost effective, thin designs.
