Advanced Input Systems, the Coeur d'Alene Idaho location of Esterline Interface Technologies developed the Master Vehicle Light Switch (MVLS) in 2001 to replace M-Series lever light switches installed in American Military vehicles from the 1950's to 2000.
In April of 2002, TACOM and the Defense Supply Center in Columbus, Ohio began a retrofit program to replace the standard three lever light switch on American M-Series military vehicles with our MVLS. The MVLS solution was based on a backlit, electronic push button design. The old switch was replaced due to maintenance problems and its inability to illuminate at night.
The MVLS has been deployed in programs such as MRAP, FMTV, FMTV2 and HEMTT. The MVLS offers the following advantages over the original lever switch:
- Solid state design
- Improved operating life
- Logic stored in non-volatile memory
- Single handed operation
- Backlit keypad when master power is supplied
To date, Advanced Input Systems has manufactured over 80,000 MVLS switches.
