Ensuring Standards Compliancy and Production Efficiency
MAP Process Reduces Risk
Esterline Interface Technologies utilizes an electronic paperless design tool called Manufacturing Application Print (MAP). The process ensures standards compliance and production efficiency. In an OEM environment, the ultimate goal is to get a working product to market as quickly as possible. Risk, as introduced from all possible sources, is an obstacle to accomplishing that goal. Our engineering and art staff engages the MAP process to develop a roadmap for seamless production of all custom designs.
Since implementation of the MAP standard our design staff can now access every part number developed over the last 10 years. MAP references information for new designs and utilizes this knowledge base to ensure design continuity and cost efficiency/non-recurring engineering expenses.
- The basis for every design starts with an approved, predictable design (construction) to insure continuity of materials and performance outcome. The Manufacturing Application Process (MAP) provides the shell.
- Manufacturing and Engineering both work from the same MAP program so the document control for Revision changes provide real time updates.
- Manufacturing is able to submit formal process improvement suggestions to engineering via the MAP’s redline system to insure optimal manufacturing design repeatability.
- The MAP standardizes thousands of OEM customers’ prints into one electronic build format to fit our manufacturing needs. It allows for repeatability in an OEM market. Teams follow the same build procedure format, look in the same areas for construction updates, retrieve information for bill of materials from the same locations, find inspection criteria all from repeatable formats within the MAP.
- The MAP allows for Engineering to input “universal changes” so obsolete materials can be updated / replaced on all designs within our system that require the material. This insures out of date products are not being specified for builds.
- The MAP system is unique and was developed by our Frankenmuth location over a decade ago to insure continuity of design.
- The MAP system is constantly reviewed and updated to ensure that we continually provide the highest quality in the industry.
- “Real time” changes and enhancements to your program are made through our on-line MAP. It’s a proven way for our Technical and Manufacturing Teams to implement continuous improvement.
