Flexible Passive Fire Protection Systems

The Darmatt^TM passive fire protection system offers a removable, flexible and compact system which has been tested and certified to provide protection of flow control and other safety equipment against Hydrocarbon Fire and Jet Fire Conditions.  Fire loss or damage can be dramatically reduced by allowing a controlled shutdown of critical facilities.

• Darmatt^TM provides up to 3 hours protection against Hydrocarbon flame temperatures in excess of 1,110^oC and Darmatt^TM Jetfire for jet fire conditions up to 1,300^oC
• Blast protection rated up to 1.62 bar
• Extensively tested and certified TYPE APPROVAL FIRE PROTECTION ENCLOSURE SYSTEM to UL1709 and BS476 (Pt 20 Amendment 6487) fire test curvs and for OTI 95 634 and ISO 22899-1 Jet Fire Resistance - approved by Lloyds with certificates of compliance from DNV and other specialist authorities
• Flexible lightweight and removable solution
• Can be fitted with Darvent^TM intumescent grills for ventilation and cooling, and colour customised as per operator requirements
• Panels are easily removed and refitted for essential equipment maintenance and regular inspection - maintenance of Darmatt^TM is not required
• No specialist skills or tools required for installation
• Durable and highly resistant to adverse environmental conditions, corrosion and vibration, with no deterioration or performance over life-span

Darshield^TM  Rigid Fire Protection Enclosures

Darshield^TM engineered stainless steel enclosures are the ultimate durable solution for the fire protection of valves, actuators, junction boxes and control units. Designed and manufactured specifically to fit the equipment protected where a greater ease of access is required.

•  Up to 2 hours protection against Hydrocarbon flame temperatures in excess of 1,100°C and Jet fire conditions up to 1,300°C
•  Blast protection rated up to 1.62 bar and evaluated above
•  Extensively tested and certified TYPE APPROVAL FIRE PROTECTION ENCLOSURE SYSTEM to UL1709 and BS476 (Pt 20 Amendment 6487) fire test curves and for OTI 95 634 and ISO 22899-1 Jet Fire resistance – approved by Lloyds with certificates of compliance from DNV and other specialist authorities

Radiant Heat and Wind Shielding

Darchem Thermal Protection offers two types of heat shield solutions, Darflare and Darscreen, based upon the incidental heat flux levels and the required reduction.  Applications include flare stacks, walkways, staircases, lifeboat stations amd muster areas.  Darscreen vertical woven mesh shielding can also be used as an effective wind or weather barrier.

• Darflare is a chevron system designed to protect underlying steelwork and personnel from high heat flux levels experienced during flaring operations - heat reduction up to 90%
• Darscreen is an ideal solution for shielding against lower heat flux levels or as a barrier to inclement weather and wind conditions.  Darscreen is commonly employed as a vertical heat shield protecting critical plant equipment, steelwork and personnel - heat reduction up to 90%

Principal features of Darflare and Darscreen

Lightweight:  Load bearing heat shields have a weight of circa 38 kg/m² and the non load bearing shields have a weight of circa 20 kg/m^2.

Cost Effective:   Darflare and Darscreen heat shields are competitively priced compared with solid systems.  The system can be designed and manufactured using both stainless steel and incoloy steel.

Maintenance Free:  The systems are designed to be completely maintenance and corrosion free during the project life of installation, even when subjected to severe thermal cycling from the operational flares and other extreme environmental conditions.

Heat Dissipation:  The systems have a greater heat dissipation than solid systems.  In the case of Darscreen a solid plate barrier would have a greater touch surface temperature than the Darchem woven wire based system.

See-through Venting:  Darscreen has excellent see-through properties and is naturally venting.  Solid systems prevent natural light and could trap gas that may permeate from the adjacent process plant.

Testing and Certification

Thermal Protection's Darmatt^TM and Darshield^TM solutions have been extensively tested by industry recognised and accredited bodies, with certified approvals received from Lloyds and certificates of compliance from DNV and other specialist authorities.

Importantly, our solutions are TYPE APPROVED FOR FIRE PROTECTION ENCLOSURE SYSTEMS.  This means that our test samples represent real life installations with corners and edges to be protected and not just the testing of flat panels or wrapping around pipe sections as seen with the test approval of other similar solutions.

• Tested and certified to UL1709 and BS476 (Pt 20 Amendment 6487) hydrocarbon fire test curves and OTI 95 634 and ISO 22899-1 for Jet Fire resistance.

Equipment being protected must be operational and remain below failure temperature throughout the prescribed protection period.  A passive fire protection system can pass a fire test but the equipment being protected will have reached its failure temperature and will not work!  The design of Darmatt^TM and Darshield^TM is computer generated using our own unique Lloyds Certified Programme to ensure failure is prevented.

• Our system determines the optimal insulation thickness for each PFP application
• Ensures that adequate insulation is provided to protect against the fire condition and the thickness of the insulation is kept to a minimum
• Uses the following parameters when calculating the optimal insulation thickness - type of fire, duration of fire, limiting temperature rise, mass of equipment, exposed surface area
