SYLMAR, Calif., October 19, 2011 ― Esterline Corporation (NYSE:ESL www.esterline.com), a leading specialty manufacturer serving aerospace/defense markets, today announced that its Sylmar-based Control Systems operation has been selected by Embraer Defense and Security to supply the thrust control quadrant assembly for the KC-390 military transport/tanker program. There are letters of intention for 60 aircraft to date from the Brazilian air force and other countries.

"This award means a great deal to Esterline. We are committed to support the Brazilian aviation industry, and greatly value our strong relationship with Embraer," said Brad Lawrence, Esterline’s chief executive officer.

Esterline will be supplying the thrust control quadrant assemblies under the Mason brand name. This equipment allows the pilot to automatically control the engine thrust and aircraft speed. It can be operated manually, or with the autopilot, and interfaces directly with the FADEC (full authority digital engine control) and the aircraft avionics.

The KC-390 is a multipurpose military aircraft for missions such as troop and cargo transport, air delivery, in-flight refueling, and medical evacuation. It is scheduled for delivery to the Brazilian Air Force from late 2015. Esterline will deliver hardware for the life of the program.

Esterline Control Systems (www.esterline.com/controlsystems/mason) designs, produces, and markets leading technology control devices and subsystems — such as Mason-branded control grips, throttles, HaWC controllers, and communications interfaces  — for today’s advanced cockpits, military vehicles, and other specialized applications. It delivers innovative cockpit solutions to its customers worldwide from principal locations in Sylmar, Calif., Everett, Wash., Platteville, Wisc., and Rockford, Ill. Mason is a wholly owned subsidiary of Esterline Corporation, a specialized aerospace and defense company headquartered in Bellevue, Washington, that employs over 9,000 people worldwide.
