PLATTEVILLE, Wis., August 18, 2010 — Esterline® Corporation, (NYSE: ESL; www.esterline.com), a leading specialty manufacturer serving the aerospace and defense markets, today announced AVISTA® Incorporated, part of its Control Systems platform, has been reappraised for maturity level 5 of the Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI®). The team is the only US-based safety-critical software development service provider to hold this highest possible rating.
AVISTA services are trusted by leading companies in aerospace, defense and medical electronics where CMMI is the benchmark for measuring the performance and quality of suppliers. As one of only 25 companies in the US, and around 100 in the world, to earn this high maturity recognition, the team also holds an ISO 9001:2000 quality certification as further proof of its process improvement leadership. "Manufacturers are under constant pressure to ensure system reliability while dealing with growing schedule and budget pressures," says Tim Budden, president of Esterline Control Systems - AVISTA. "Our high-maturity processes lower clients' project risk, and their overall development costs. This process achievement, combined with our industry-leading expertise in DO-178B and other standards, are how our skilled engineers have successfully delivered for more than 1,000 clients since 1987. We are extremely proud of our team's exceptional work." The appraisal followed the Software Engineering Institute (SEI) Standard CMMI Appraisal Method for Process Improvement (SCAMPI) v1.2 method and is based on CMMI-DEV v1.2 for Maturity Level 5. CMMI is designated by Carnegie Mellon University's Software Engineering Institute (SEI), a federally funded research and development center. It provides an objective assessment of the full range of an organization's engineering capabilities. Higher maturity levels signify lower risks for successful program execution.
