Process Improvement Benefits, Are they Real?

 

July 14, 2011 - Even in standards-driven industries like aerospace, defense and medical device development, delivering high-quality, high-value products and services is a competitive advantage. That quality is derived from effective, repeatable processes—and usually, the use of process improvement.

Whether a team uses methodologies like ISO 9001, CMMI or TQM, these approaches take time and resources. Is the effort worth it? Research indicates, when done correctly, the answer is yes.

CMMI-based improvement research, as outlined in “Performance Results of CMMI®-Based Process Improvement,” showed huge gains in quality, productivity and schedule—as well as cost. So, while quality isn’t free, it can happen with a disciplined approach.
