Case: Supporting Manufacturer’s Legacy Product Sales

March 22, 2011 - As avionics system manufacturers outsource more software development to focus on their core businesses, AVISTA services often helps with proposals to aircraft platform manufacturers. That was the case with a flight management system (FMS) legacy upgrade opportunity.

The dual use (commercial and military) FMS system needed to be upgraded to meet DO-178B requirements. The team's expertise in FMS software development, DO-178B requirements, and gap analysis for legacy system upgrades were all critical for the manufacturer's proposal.

The AVISTA team created estimates for the legacy upgrade, as well as estimates for new development work associated with the end product. This Rough Order of Magnitude (ROM) estimate, a very early cost estimate, proposes development methods to maximize the reuse of software artifacts to minimize cost and schedule impacts. The team also worked closely with the client to complete the final proposal.

While AVISTA services focuses on providing outsourced software and systems development services, our expertise and extensive, historical project management data can often help manufacturers in their proposals, as well as with their request for proposal (RFP) and statement of work (SOW) development.
