TacView® Portable Mission Display
The TacView® Portable Mission Display (PMD) is a compact, self-contained mission computer designed specifically to enhance situational awareness for military, paramilitary, law enforcement, and civil aircrews. TacView provides mission enhancing functionality at the flight crew's fingertips, with a data interface no other airborne portable computer can provide.
High vibration and temperature extremes associated with demanding airborne operations will not affect TacView's performance, nor will they cause untimely system shut-downs. A removable minimum 64GB solid state memory ensures continuous operation in the most challenging cockpit conditions, and allows for instantaneous declassification of critical data when necessary.
TacView’s unique high contrast display offers an exceptional viewing experience in both day and night lighting conditions, and is fully dimmable from 800 to 0.5 Nits. The unit is also NVIS compatible to MIL-STD-3009, including keyboard and bezel buttons.
Accommodating User Interface
Rugged film-on-glass touch technology puts TacView ahead of the competition, offering reliable single or dual touch input capability, while its multi-function bezel buttons are designed to accommodate gloved-hand tactile feedback. In addition, a uniquely integrated “QWERTY-style” sliding keyboard optimizes text input in all conditions.
Power to Spare
Never again does the aircrew need to limit the amount of data displayed on a PMD at the same time. TacView comes equipped with a powerful Intel Core™ i7 processor with integrated video processing capability, which allows multiple applications to run simultaneously.
Expansion Module Units
The TacView® Portable Mission Computer is installed in conjunction with an Expansion Module Unit (EMU), that offers a certified interface to aircraft power and data links. These EMUs enable a wide range of interconnectivity and seamless high-speed communications.

DO-160E tested and manufactured using MIL-qualified* components, the MIL-STD EMU is ruggedized and specifically designed for military and paramilitary installations. The following interface capabilities are offered:
*Other MIL standards recognized: MIL-STD-704, MIL-STD-810F, MIL-STD-461.
TacView® PMD Applications
Situational awareness only happens with the right tools. TacView® is the portable mission tool that links the crew to the networked battlefield and facilitates mission planning in a paperless cockpit.
The TacView® PMD software environment is supported by a Windows 7 operating system. This allows greater application flexibility and empowers the air crew to select applications best suited to their conditions. Types of applications supported on TacView® include:
Additional applications are available that enable note-taking, image sharing, post-flight maintenance debrief, mission rehearsal/review, charting and embedded training.
When coupled with optical or infrared video sources such as CMC's SureSight® I-Series™ Enhanced Vision System (EVS), the combined TacView/EVS system improves flight crew situational awareness by helping them see through fog, haze, precipitation and at night for increased mission effectiveness.
In a cockpit retrofit application, the biggest challenge is to identify a mount location that will allow the use of the TacView® without hindering visibility to standby instruments, the primary flight display and navigation/multifunction displays. The mount location should be as close as possible to the primary field of view. Furthermore, the installation must not obstruct egress paths, such as window escape, and it must not impede access and handling of key controls.
TacView’s numerous mount solutions allow this Portable Mission Display to be installed on side panels, front panels, yokes and standard Dzus mounting rails. Where aircraft mounting is impossible, such as on the US Coast Guard MH-65 Dolphin helicopter, a knee-mount solution is available.
CMC’s patented V-mount system consists of an arm mount with V-groove swivel head which facilitates the adjustment of PMD position and viewing angle. A quick-release adapter allows the user to easily remove the display from its mount in flight while remaining connected to aircraft power and signal.
CMC has and continues to be a proud supplier of Portable Mission Displays on many air, ground and navy programs. CMC’s product portfolio meets the most demanding customer requirements and complex installation configurations.
CMC’s list of TacView customers includes the US Navy, US Army, US Air Force, US Air National Guard, US Coast Guard, Royal Saudi Air Force and Chilean Air Force. TacView® PMDs have been installed in a variety of configurations on C-130, E-2C, DHC-7, P-3, HH/MH-65, C-17, F-22 and F-16 aircraft.
During the 2011 NATO Coalition Warrior Interoperability Demonstration (CWID), military personnel executing a formation search and rescue mission used Link 16 networked TacView PMD systems in a JET configuration (with L-3 Communications’ Joint Range Extension) to perform their mission. Unanimously, each pilot participating in the demonstration confirmed improved situational awareness that led to superior mission effectiveness.
Updates and Upgrades
Rugged Equipment with Expansion Capability
As the most widely used Tactical Datalink display system in the world, the TacView’s pedigree ensures stability in design and cutting-edge technology.
CMC offers upgrade solutions to its clients, allowing them to benefit from these technological evolutions without a complete system retrofit. For example, CMC’s latest TacView® baseline allows customers to upgrade processor, display screen and touch technology, while maintaining the same form factor. As such, customers can benefit from a three-fold performance improvement in processor computing time, reduced power consumption and heat generation with the LED display backlighting, and optional dual touch-screen for advanced manipulation of charts and other data in multi-touch capable applications.
