Historic Highlights
Formerly known as Canadian Marconi Company, CMC Electronics has designed and built innovative communication and electronics systems since 1903. CMC has a long and rich history, combined with the agility and spark of a young company that truly innovates. 

1901

World's first trans-oceanic wireless transmission.

1903

Marconi's Wireless Telegraph Company of Canada incorporated.

1909

First factory opened in Montreal.

1912

Marconi wireless station receives S.S. Titanic’s distress signal.

1919

Canada’s first experimental commercial broadcasting station established in Montreal.

1921

First home radio receivers in Canada.

1925

Company name changed to Canadian Marconi Company.

1931

Establishment of the Canadian radio network, which became the Canadian Broadcasting Company (CBC).

1951

T.V. receivers designed and manufactured.

Transatlantic telecommunications services later known as Teleglobe Canada, acquired by the Canadian Government.

1953

English Electric Company Limited of the U.K. acquired 50.6% of Canadian Marconi Company.

1956

First Canadian company to design a complete microwave radio relay system, the Mid-Canada Defence Line.

1957

First to develop FM-CW Doppler radar for air navigation.

1960s - 1970s

Focus on aircraft navigation, monitoring and display systems, tactical radio communications, radar systems and multi-processor telex switching systems.

1980s - 1990s

High-end aviation, communications, infrared sensing, marine electronics and positioning markets.

Avionics supplier and systems integrator.

2001

Company name changed to CMC Electronics Inc.

2002

Acquired Flight Visions.

Launch of SureSight® CMA-2600 Enhanced Vision System I-Series™ sensor. 2003Launch of:

  • HeliHawk Head-Up Display
  • KAI XKT-1C cockpit prototype
2004

Launch of:

  • PilotView® Electronic Flight Bag
  • CMA-9000 Flight Management System
  • T-6B trainer demonstrator aircraft with CMC cockpit avionics
2005

Launch of:

  • Electro-optic hybrids
  • IntegriFlight™ CMA-5024 GPS WAAS Sensor
  • M-311 demonstrator aircraft with CMC cockpit avionics 
     
2006

Launch of:

  • CMA-4000 Flight Management System
  • Panel switch technology 

Selection of CMC’s Cockpit 4000 by Hawker Beechcraft for T-6B production.

2007

CMC acquired by Esterline (March 2007)

2008

Launch of:

  • TacView® Portable Mission Display
  • PilotView® EFB with 10.4” Display
2009

FAA/Transport Canada certification of Cockpit 4000 on T-6B

2012

Launch of Cockpit 4000 NexGen Avionics

2013

Launch of PilotView® EFB 12.1” Display and Aircraft Information Server product line

2015

Esterline acquires Barco Defense Aerospace and Training business
