(Montréal, September 25, 2002) CMC Electronics Inc. has received approval from Transport Canada Civil Aviation (TCCA) of its 24-channel Global Navigation System Sensor Approach (GNSSA) Module for software development compliance to DO-178B level B and for Complex Electronic Component development compliance to DO-254 level B. These approvals are the principal elements required to obtain certification of user systems hosting the GNSSA to TSO-C129a by the Federal Aviation Authority. The approvals are critical milestones for further certifications such as TSO-C145 (WAAS) and TSO (LAAS). Transport Canada is presently in the final stages of issuing their recommendation to the Federal Aviation Administration for TSO approval of CMC's GNSSA module.

The popularity of CMC's high gain antenna system, known as the CMA-2102, was confirmed with major new orders placed by some of the world's leading airlines. Japan Airlines ordered the CMA-2102 for 18 firm and 16 optional B747s. Singapore Airlines ordered the antenna for its fleet of 18 new B777s and six B747s. Qantas ordered the antenna for 6 new B747s and 13 A330s.

(Farnborough International, July 22, 2002) A new Inmarsat high-speed airborne data service called Swift64 that offers transmission of data at 64 kbps per second will allow aircraft passengers to access the Web, send e-mail and participate in video-conferencing sessions while in flight almost anywhere in the world. The service will also dramatically increase the speed at which airline operations data is transmitted to and from the aircraft while in flight. Trials were conducted recently using Tenzing's connectivity service and CMC's phased array antenna with an integrated Honeywell/Thales satellite communications (Satcom) system aboard Honeywell's Citation V technology demonstrator aircraft. The flight demonstrations showed that the new high-speed service worked exceptionally well.
