The announcement formalizes CMC Electronics' leadership team for military products following the acquisition of Flight Visions by CMC Electronics in July of this year. In leading CMC’s Military Aviation business, Atac oversees operations in Sugar Grove, Illinois; Ottawa, Ontario; and the United Kingdom.

Qantas Airways Selects CMC Electronics for B747-300 Flight Deck Avionics Upgrade Program

Deliveries will start in early 2003 and will be completed by year-end.

CMC Electronics Receives Transport Canada Approval Of Software and Complex Electronic Components For Its 24-Channel Global Positioning System (GPS) Sensor

(Montréal, September 25, 2002) CMC Electronics Inc. has received approval from Transport Canada Civil Aviation (TCCA) of its 24-channel Global Navigation System Sensor Approach (GNSSA) Module for software development compliance to DO-178B level B and for Complex Electronic Component development compliance to DO-254 level B. These approvals are the principal elements required to obtain certification of user systems hosting the GNSSA to TSO-C129a by the Federal Aviation Authority. The approvals are critical milestones for further certifications such as TSO-C145 (WAAS) and TSO (LAAS). Transport Canada is presently in the final stages of issuing their recommendation to the Federal Aviation Administration for TSO approval of CMC's GNSSA module.

The operation in Sugar Grove, IL, comprises approximately 100 employees and will operate as an integral part of CMC Electronics.

New Orders Confirm Popularity of CMC Electronics' Industry Leading Aero-h Satcom Antenna

(Farnborough International, July 22, 2002) CMC Electronics has captured more than 75% of all Aero-H/H+ airline installations with its Satellite Communications (Satcom) antennas. The popularity of CMC's high gain antenna system, known as the CMA-2102, was confirmed with major new orders placed by some of the world's leading airlines. Japan Airlines ordered the CMA-2102 for 18 firm and 16 optional B747s. Singapore Airlines ordered the antenna for its fleet of 18 new B777s and six B747s. Qantas ordered the antenna for 6 new B747s and 13 A330s.

Suresight Enhanced Vision System (EVS) Offers Impressive Performance During Boeing Technology Demonstrator Flights

(Farnborough International, July 22, 2002) Boeing Commercial Airplanes selected CMC Electronics as one of a handful of suppliers to install a suite of new and emerging flight deck technologies on board the Boeing Technology Demonstrator. The new airplane, a next-generation 737-900, was outfitted with CMC's SureSight™ Enhanced Vision System (EVS), which Boeing is highlighting as an emerging technology that “allows pilots to see objects at night and in inclement weather, thus enhancing safety and potentially reducing delays.”

CMC Satcom Antenna Used in Trials of New Inmarsat Swift64 High-Bandwidth Mobile Data Service

(Farnborough International, July 22, 2002) A new Inmarsat high-speed airborne data service called Swift64 that offers transmission of data at 64 kbps per second will allow aircraft passengers to access the Web, send e-mail and participate in video-conferencing sessions while in flight almost anywhere in the world. The service will also dramatically increase the speed at which airline operations data is transmitted to and from the aircraft while in flight. Trials were conducted recently using Tenzing's connectivity service and CMC's phased array antenna with an integrated Honeywell/Thales satellite communications (Satcom) system aboard Honeywell's Citation V technology demonstrator aircraft. The flight demonstrations showed that the new high-speed service worked exceptionally well.

CMC is prime contractor, systems integrator and avionics management systems supplier for this contract, which is valued at $75 million (CDN). As prime contractor, CMC Electronics has total responsibility for a turnkey project that provides proven avionics equipment and significantly enhanced systems reliability, to support existing missions, while providing a clear growth path to meet future performance requirements and incremental system upgrades.
