(Montréal, August 19, 2002) CMC Electronics has agreed to sell its Military Communications Division to Ultra Electronics of Greenford, Middlesex, England as part of CMC Electronics’ strategy of divesting certain non-core assets and building a leading aviation electronics, infrared systems and space electronics business. This transaction along with the recent acquisition of Flight Visions Inc., a leading designer, manufacturer and marketer of heads-up-displays and mission computers, are important steps in executing CMC Electronics’ strategy. Proceeds of the sale will be used for further acquisitions and for general corporate purposes. The transaction is expected to be finalized over the next few weeks.

Flight Visions is a well established military aviation company that designs and manufactures a range of cockpit systems and products that includes head-up displays (HUDs), mission computers and control panels for fighter and fighter trainer aircraft, as well as rotary wing aircraft. The operation in Sugar Grove, IL, comprises approximately 100 employees and will operate as an integral part of CMC Electronics.

(Farnborough International, July 22, 2002) CMC Electronics has captured more than 75% of all Aero-H/H+ airline installations with its Satellite Communications (Satcom) antennas. The popularity of CMC's high gain antenna system, known as the CMA-2102, was confirmed with major new orders placed by some of the world's leading airlines. Japan Airlines ordered the CMA-2102 for 18 firm and 16 optional B747s. Singapore Airlines ordered the antenna for its fleet of 18 new B777s and six B747s. Qantas ordered the antenna for 6 new B747s and 13 A330s.

The new airplane, a next-generation 737-900, was outfitted with CMC's SureSight™ Enhanced Vision System (EVS), which Boeing is highlighting as an emerging technology that “allows pilots to see objects at night and in inclement weather, thus enhancing safety and potentially reducing delays.”

(Farnborough International, July 22, 2002) A new Inmarsat high-speed airborne data service called Swift64 that offers transmission of data at 64 kbps per second will allow aircraft passengers to access the Web, send e-mail and participate in video-conferencing sessions while in flight almost anywhere in the world. The service will also dramatically increase the speed at which airline operations data is transmitted to and from the aircraft while in flight. Trials were conducted recently using Tenzing's connectivity service and CMC's phased array antenna with an integrated Honeywell/Thales satellite communications (Satcom) system aboard Honeywell's Citation V technology demonstrator aircraft. The flight demonstrations showed that the new high-speed service worked exceptionally well.

Under the terms of the contract, the CMC Electronics High-Capacity Line-of-Sight (HCLOS) radio, the AN/GRC-245, will be integrated by the Chung Shan Institute of Science and Technology (CSIST) in a point-to-point radio relay system for voice, data and video. (National Business Aviation Association convention, December 11, 2001) CMC Electronics Inc. is on track to certify its dual-band Infrared Enhanced Vision System (IR-EVS) in late 2002. The company has successfully completed two sets of developmental flight trials with over 70 approaches in various adverse weather conditions. Throughout these trials, CMC Electronics has gained considerable performance and certification-related experience, and is now in the final stages of product integration, with FAA and Transport Canada certification flight testing scheduled to begin in late 2002. Certification of the IR-EVS will require the cooperation of an airframe manufacturer, and talks are under way with several business and commercial aircraft producers.
