Transcription Device; Voice Recognition

Challange:
Ergonomic integration of technologies. Device required both voice input and playback. In addition, it had to incorporate a laser bar scanner and provide interface connections to a PC key board port, sound card plugs, and a serial connection.
Solution:
- The industrial design team created a custom enclosure shape.
- The mechanical/electrical team custom fit the enclosure with components.
- The audio circuit design was reverse engineered from customer’s breadboard.
- Laser scanner communication was incorporated.
- Interconnect is a cable with 5 separate plugs integrated into one molded part.
Application:
Handheld medical transcription input device used with voice recognition software.
Innovations:
Integration of voice recognition with bar scanner technology.
Telephone Keypad for Telemarketing

Challange:
Customer required keytop shapes of both the largest and smallest of our manufacturing capabilities. The indicator lights had to be viewable from a wide range of angles.
Solution:
- A special keytop plunger was created to accommodate both large and small keys without the need for special leveling wires.
- A lighting study and light scattering features on the light pipe achieved the desired light view angles.
Application:
Telephone keypad for the telemarketing industry.
Innovations:
Varied key sizes and lighting. Product is assembled in six language versions. It is produced in high volumes with a continuous production line.
Financial Trader Telephone Turret

Challange:
Customer wanted a new look for an existing product, plus client required both a left and right handed version.
Solution:
- New keyboard was designed to interface with the existing control electronics.
- Both a left and right handed model were designed.
Application:
Financial trader’s telephone turret.
Innovations:
Flexibility and accommodation of manufacturing. Double shot molded keys meet the demands of abusive trading floor environment.
Tactical, Secure Telephone Keypad

Challange:
To finish customer’s design, which was 75% complete, without violating specific customer specifications.
Solution:
Careful design review and subsequent inspection steps achieved desired results.
Application:
Tactical, secure (encrypted) telephone keypad.
Innovations:
The custom LCD was reverse engineered to lower the cost A second source supplier of LCD was used to meet aggressive delivery requirements.
Video Conference, Battery, Infrared Keypad

Challange:
This infrared remote control required an LED array that could hit the receiver over an extremely wide range of orientations and long distance. In addition, it had to achieve a two-year battery life.
Solution:
- The industrial design provided by the customer was fleshed out with all the details.
- An elaborate sleep circuit and power boosting components were used to meet battery life and emitter requirements.
- Pro-E software was used to generate complex curved surfaces that could not be reasonably dimensioned.
Application:
Video conferencing, battery powered, infrared keypad.
Innovations:
Custom design and engineering successfully delivered a sleek, sophisticated device.
