(Farnborough International Airshow – July 11, 2016) Esterline Corporation is pleased to invite visitors to visit Hall 1, stand B60 to see the company’s latest technologies, including cockpit avionics displays and high-reliability Human Machine Interface (HMI) products for aerospace and defense. An innovative flight deck demonstrator showcases Esterline’s broad capabilities in HMI technologies and integrated display solutions for forward-fit and retrofit requirements. The company is also providing an overall view of its product and solution capabilities in its core markets.
The flight deck demonstrator features innovative Esterline products from the company’s Avionics Systems and Control & Communication Systems business groups. These include a new Korry overhead panel with touchscreen technology for the Gulfstream G500/G600 - the first of its kind, as well as Mason primary and secondary flight controls. Several CMC Electronics brand Head Down Display product concepts are also being showcased as well as the PilotView® Electronic Flight Bag and e-connectivity solution selected for the Bombardier C Series aircraft.
Kevin Moschetti, President, Esterline Control & Communication Systems, added: “Esterline is showcasing the utility control system (UCS) touchscreen display technology that is part of our Korry line of cockpit controls and displays, and the first touchscreen control solution for overhead panels in civilian aviation. It replaces a number of separate display and switching components, while increasing flexibility and reliability. After pioneering this application for the business jet market, we are now making the technology available in a format easily adapted to a wider range of aircraft.”
Esterline is presenting its newly expanded portfolio of avionics displays, further to the acquisition by Esterline Corporation of the Defense, Aerospace and Training division of Belgium-based Barco N.V. in January 2015. Manufacturing approximately 7,000 avionics displays annually, the Avionics Systems business group now offers an unmatched variety of world-class avionics display capabilities and technologies, in sizes that range from 3” x 4” to 8” x 20”. The expanded product portfolio features modules and control assemblies, including integrated panels and control displays; video displays; smart displays, including multi-function displays and CRT to LCD upgrades; certified avionics computers as well as avionics software and application services. The products are supplied to a wide range of customers, including Honeywell (Primus Elite and Pilatus PC-12NG) Textron Aviation Beechcraft (T-6B turboprop trainer), Airbus Helicopters (Engine Instruments for the H225, mission displays for the H175), and Thales (Control Display Management Systems for the ATR-42/72-600).
Michel Potvin, President, Esterline Avionics Systems, said, “This recent acquisition underscores Esterline’s drive to invest in value-creating technologies for our customers that will contribute to the company’s growth. Esterline is now the number one independent supplier of high-quality avionics displays.”
To provide unmatched optical performance and color rendering with its avionics displays, Esterline is introducing a range of new technologies in its CMC Electronics brand of products such as true 8-bit colors, complemented with an illumination system based on next-generation Light Emitting Diodes that maintain the display chromaticity and brightness over the life of the display in all lighting modes (day, night, NVIS A and NVIS B). To enhance the HMI, these displays can be paired with safety-critical, multi-touch recognition technology with optional, adaptive force detection.
For customers who require smart computing platforms such as multi-function displays or avionics computers, the CMC Electronics brand solutions feature the next generation of MOSArt™ (Modular Open System Architecture) middleware, compatible with both Wind River and Green Hills’ Real Time Operating Systems (RTOS). The combination of MOSArt™ and ARINC 653 RTOS allows customers to host, on a single certified platform, multiple software applications developed at various Design Assurance Levels. This proven combination reduces development cycle time and certification risks.
